Categories based on evidence
For each of your main searches, we look at the categories on the three listings Google already favours, then settle on a primary and supporting set that describe your work truthfully.
In North Bay, Ontario, “open now” is among the endings Google offers most often: “north bay open now”, “north bay restaurants open now”, “north bay walk in clinic open now”, “massage north bay open now”. Every one of those is answered first by the map panel, a short stack of pins with hours, stars and distance. Plenty of people choose from that panel and never visit a website at all.
That leaves the details on your profile to do the selling. Hours must be right for each weekday, every statutory holiday and any storm closure. The pin must sit on your entrance, not in the middle of a shared lot at a plaza or mall. And your photos should let someone who has driven in from Mattawa or Powassan recognize the building with a snowbank piled beside it.
The city also serves a much larger area than its own streets. It estimates a regional trading area of about 112,000 people, and Highways 11 and 17 carry travellers through from every side. Someone in town for a hospital appointment, a hockey game or a university visit may be searching from a parking lot they have never seen before, and the map is the guide they trust.
Search demand
Google.ca suggestions from 4 October 2026. Every modifier points to a field on your profile that needs to be right before the search happens.
Count how many of those searches end in open now, hours or open labour day, or name a place such as Lakeshore or Northgate. A listing still showing last winter’s schedule, or a pin dropped at the far end of a plaza, loses all of them whatever its rating. So hours, holiday and weather closures and pin placement come first; categories, photos and reviews follow.
Check these first
Listed in the order we usually inspect a profile.
A listing that says “open” on Labour Day or through a heavy snowfall while you are closed collects irritated reviews; one that says “closed” when you are open never gets the visit. Special hours can be set days in advance and changed again on the morning itself.
Plazas and malls often stack every tenant on one point, or on a service door. Dragging the pin to your customer entrance and adding the unit number to the address spares people a cold walk around the building.
Moving across town, selling the business or renaming it can strand an older profile. Old and new reviews end up split, Google is unsure which address is live, and the stale profile needs flagging as relocated or shut.
A few directories trim “Ontario” off your address or file it under the wrong postal code. Google reads those copies too, so each wrong one gets hunted down and corrected where it started.
A category that is close but wrong, such as a renovation firm filed only under one narrow trade, hides you from many of the searches you want. We compare yours with the categories on listings already showing for your main terms.
The work
For each of your main searches, we look at the categories on the three listings Google already favours, then settle on a primary and supporting set that describe your work truthfully.
Street, unit, postal code and “North Bay, ON” entered the same way everywhere, and the pin moved to the door customers really use.
Weekdays, statutory holidays, summer and winter schedules and short-notice weather closures, all entered before they take effect.
Your storefront from the parking lot in winter and in summer, the sign, the entrance and the room inside, so a first-time visitor knows they have arrived.
A QR card at the till and a short link for email, so pleased customers can leave a few words. Every review is answered inside a week, in French whenever the reviewer wrote in French and your staff can reply in kind.
A stranger’s “suggested edit” to your hours, a duplicate that springs up overnight, a dip in direction requests: spotted at the monthly review rather than after a lost long weekend.
Done carefully
The standards we keep for every client, in writing, so you can check us against them.
Lose the profile and years of reviews vanish with it. Quick tricks are not worth that gamble.
Keyword-stuffed names, a mailbox passed off as a shop, and reviews traded for discounts all work for a few weeks and then cost the listing. We follow Google’s published rules for profiles, which is slower at first and far safer over a few years.

Questions
Use special hours in your Business Profile, which can be set the same morning from a phone. We can show you how, or make the change when you message us. Switch them back once you reopen, and put a line on your website too, since people check both.
Include the unit in the address line, drag the pin onto the door people really use, and upload a couple of pictures from the lot and the inside corridor. A short line in the description, such as which entrance or larger store you sit beside, saves people circling.
Distance from the searcher still counts, so you will not top every list out there. But a clearly stated service area, reviews from customers who made the trip, and photos that make your place easy to spot all help people who are searching before a long drive.
Do not create another one. We first work out whether it is a leftover from an old address, an automatic listing or a public edit, then claim it, merge it or ask Google to remove it, whichever fits the case.
In most cases, though it takes patience. We pin down the probable trigger, fix it, then send a reinstatement request backed by proof: registration papers, a utility bill addressed to the business, pictures of the sign and entrance. How quickly Google responds is out of anyone’s hands.
No. Looking after the profile counts as local SEO, which every plan covers: $300, $500 or $700 a month for Starter, Growth or Pro, billed in Canadian dollars, with no commitment beyond the month you are in.
